I think that is more than a theory ...but an elegant truth of genesis begininning with the algaes alongside the ocean vents. Reason imagines it easily , when reason is well informed (educated) with fact. The heart knows it too, though one has to develope a certain sense of appreciation to see the elegance. It won't stop people thinking believing in a wonderous mythological genesis story ....blue-green algae has only so much appeal to capture the magination of the various tribes of "the faithful ", attempting to tie themselves into such a vast history & the magic . And all one has to do is breath to know that he is "attached" to the world . Your commment about formation of oxygen in the genesis story , is also probably true. (obviously) But it would seem the most fitting way for a "God" to proceded , by long patient steady incremential steps and processes ...til the grasslands covering much of the terrestial plains were to emerge several billion yrs later and give rise to the higher vertabrates , mammals , and thinking emoting tool-making "man". Who himself is just part of the chain. Religion was a tool....all somewhat "humbling" to see, and the "Book" will be rewritten into people's beliefs eventually. But they said they wanted "truth"...the whole truth , and nothing but the truth? ;-)
