13:27 KLAC KLA-Tencor trades to lows of day (46.02 -1.69) -- Update --

Weakness is being attributed to 1) failure to provide substantive guidance at the Citigroup Semiconductor Conference, 2 )overall decline in semis (SOX down 2.5% on Smith Barney downgrades and market disappointment that ALTR -3.1% failed to raise guidance more).

RE: "It should be noted that since 1978, the worldwide semiconductor market has never grown more than 8 percent in the year following a year when the industry's capital spending increased more than 50 percent. As noted earlier, IC Insights forecasts that worldwide semiconductor industry capital spending will increase at least 53 percent in 2004."

This is so much better than trying to estimate how much additional capacity will be added by the capital spending and how much additional demand will need to be met. NOT!
