The stupidity of analysis is so obvious in this one paragraph.

"Such a system, experts say, would effectively eliminate most of the benefits offered by hydrogen. Although the fuel-cell cars themselves may emit nothing but water vapor, the process of producing the fuel cells from hydrocarbons will continue America's dependence on fossil fuels and leave behind carbon dioxide, the primary cause of global warming."

First, even if there is global warming, carbon dioxide may not even be close to the the primary cause.

Second. in urban area where air quality sucks big time, a large scale use of hydrogen and the attendant reduction in pollution is a possible mega major benefit to all the millions living in such an area.

In any case until the amazing fuel gasoline gets to 5 to 10 dollars a gallon, I doubt hydrogen would be competitive in any but some very specialized applications.

So for now those in urban areas will breathe more polluted air that may be the cause of them being more stupid in general and being so easily fooled into voting for idiots like al gore or hanoi kerry.

That's a pretty dim view.
30/40 yrs ago everyone thought that 5 or 10 massive computers world wide would be more than enough.
If some R-D $ went into renewables research taking H from H2O
could be much more cost effective thru solar and or wind.
