I hope you're right. Unfortunately, he's not dead yet, so they could always put him back in, if they are that crazy. Think of Napoleon.

Further, events in Iran after the fall of the Shah show that getting rid of a secular strong man can lead to religious strong men taking advantage of the power vaccuum.

Brooks wrote to this topic a couple of weeks ago. We go in idealistic a la wilson, and eventually settle for less because of reality check. There is always a mess. Its hard to think of Bush 43 as Wilson but there is not much difference between the neocons and the wilsonians in reality. TR and McCain play the role of realists. And the anti-internationalist dems play the role of the republicans of that era. Mike
