It already halfway has after the WMD's turned out to not exist.

Yep. The public put a lot more emphasis on the WMD, rather
than "liberate the iraqis." The Iraqis was just an added
bonus. Whether republicans want to admit to it or not,
the WMD issue, became the corner stone that supported the
war effort. When the WMD was found to be false, everything
else started to crash down and it hasn't stop crashing yet.
