Anyway, it looks like Sharon wants to keep provoking the palestinians until the hatreds are so strong that Israel can take-over the temple/mosque under some pretext. If you recall, palestinians were quietly awaiting the implemetation of Oslo accords when Sharon went to the site with a thousand troops (in '98 ?) and declared it exclusively for Israelis. That is when the suicide bombings started. edit. This was a bit muddled. But the gist is correct.
