With granularity: most objectivists are libertarians, politically (if begrudgingly, from the perspective of our major philosophical divide); on the other hand, only a portion - in my experience, a small portion - of libertarians are close adherents of the objectivism as an overall philosophy. Furthermore, I would describe Ayn Rand an objectivist; drilling down a bit more, however, followers of Ayn Rand as a philosopher and theorist would best be classified "Randians." Continuing: all Randians are objectivists, but not all objectivists are Randians. And then - as in every aspect of life - there are legions of misled, ignorant, or conniving individuals who call themselves libertarians and, in fact, are anything but such. Thankfully, they're easy to ferret out and worth their weight in long-dated emission certificates where entertainment value is concerned. LPS5
