If Saddam felt he needed our permission to invade Kuwait, why didn't he leave when on the day after he invaded and occupied it, August 3, 1990, we, along with the UN Security Council, voted 14-0 to demand his immediate withdrawal, and four days later imposed trade and financial boycotts? Why didn't he leave when we threatened war? Why didn't he leave until we kicked his ass out?

Why didn't Saddam defend himself at the time on the grounds that we had given him permission to invade Kuwait?
