AS, can you recommend any threads on the forums at johnkerry.com that would be useful to explore and discuss what, exactly, John Kerry stands for?

There are logical reasons why Governor Davis did what he did (and he probably felt he had to do each in order to survive - politically), but California is a three strikes State.

In the early summer of 2000, Gray Davis knew that the CA Energy markets were totally screwed up. He tried to fix things - quietly through proper political channels. But the upshot is, that he waited to declare a state of emergency till after the 2000 Election. By which time, PG&E and SCE were defaulting on loans from creditors - and the State was asking people, not use Christmas lights.

Before he was re-elected as Governor; Gov Davis knew that the California State Budget was a total mess. Once again, he pretty much kept quiet about the problem till after the Election. Then suddenly it was..."Surprise everyone, CA is broke!!!" He should have learned from the Energy Crisis, and addressed the problem MUCH earlier. Incredibly, Governor Davis, appointed the Author of CA's Electricity Deregulation Plan as California's Budget Chief.

During the 2002 re-election campaign, Governor Davis interfered in the Republican contest and ran millions of dollars in very negative adds against (politically moderate) Mayor Richard Riordan, as a result, relatively unknown and inexperienced Bill Simon became the Republican candidate. Then the Governor ran an even more negative campaign against Mr. Simon - So negative, that voter turnout was the worst (for electing a governor) since 1910. Then during the recall election, allies of Governor Davis, savagely attacked a man, who was married to Rose Kennedy's grand daughter. This from a Party that had its National Convention in Los Angeles; where they celebrated the Presidency of Bill Clinton a few years earlier.

Another interesting note, I believe that Governor Davis even made fun of how Arnold pronounced "California" (which actually was pretty close to "correct" Spanish); Democratic allies of the Governor making fun and claiming that Arnold couldn't even pronounce "California" correctly - in a State where the largest minority group is hispanic!
