Homes at the high-end of the price spectrum have not been appreciating in price in Los Angeles either.

The biggest price gains in the past few years have been centered almost entirely in the low-end of the market.

Remote areas and dodgy neighborhoods have seen the biggest percentage gains.

What defines the "true" characteristics of the market, your experience or that of my two friends? Do all stocks have to go up to define a rally? You know from the stock market that frequently the leaders lag while the average stock makes headway and visa versa. The fact that you happen to be holding a laggard doesn't negate the rally in the greater market even while for your purposes it might as well not be happening.
