That story could be wrong, or the witnesses could be mistaken, but the charge is most serious: Treason. "Witnesses told a federal grand jury President George W. Bush knew about, and took no action to stop, the release of a covert CIA operative's name to a journalist in an attempt to discredit her husband, a critic of administration policy in Iraq." It saddens me to even think that the President of the United States could be mentioned as being involved in a crime of treason. Nixon's crimes were misuse of power, Clinton lied under oath, but in this case we are talking TREASON. Occasionally in our history, extremists have suggested that the policy of this or that President was "treasonous", but they were extremists and were misusing the word. This alleged act is treason under the law. In my heart, I actually hope this is not true. I have a very low opinion of Bush and his policies. I believe he is mendacious, intellectually lazy, inept and ideological, but I never thought he would commit treason against America. Once again, I hope it is not true.
