I read an article, can remember where, maybe 'Nature'. Coastal estimates where in the Billions of cubic yards on the coastal areas alone. Thousands of years supply. More realistic then cold fusion. But why spend the money when oil fossil fuels are still cheaper. Remember then is a ton on gold around the Potomac River, mineable at 1000 an oz.

At least for now, I've got methane hydroxide classed in the fantasy category right alongside using "Mister Fusion" to get energy from bananas.

I believe you mean Methane Hydrate. It's a great idea, once someone figures out how to effectively mine the stuff without causing an general "melting" of the deposit and releasing the greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.
