Actually I have been called an "art collector" but I didn't much like it--sounded too much like "sucker" to me. But what I am proud of having done was to buy paintings by totally unknown young artists at a time when they really needed the money to live on, and then see paintings comparable to my $250 purchases selling for ten or twenty times that some years later. I haven't ever sold anything, however, so I really don't know what I could get--and if I do, I think I should send the profit to the artist. But I really like the paintings so I have not sold any.
