I'm in startups that will always be here. I actually like the lesser crowds vs. 2000. It doesn't bother me in the least that expensive bay area RE is declining. But this area will never recover, it is fundamentally changed. Google won't help, because they have less than 2000 workers- too small. And salesforce.com is mostly offshore. Most companies are significantly offshore now, that is the issue. High technology as an industry will probably just move to China or India in the next decade.
