Hi Amy,

From what I've seen there is a judgewment call on how/when to recognise the revenue.

If the company has added on to an order and it is not a new customer or device - it goes to revenue upon shipment.

If it is a new customer or a first new machine for a customer - the revenue goes to a deferred payment (much like a receivable). This prevents it from becoming revenue, and deferrs it from becoming revenue untiol performance acceptance is formalized. In some cases, I've seen it legitimately put off by as much as 3 quarters.
