I'm curious- will you think "that iraqi freedom and self determination" are a good thing if the Iraqis vote for anti-American relgious leaaders, or an Anti-American strongman?

A "sliver of the left"? You inspired me to read on another paragraph:

In the last few weeks, group-think — or group hysteria — has overtaken the pundits. Lunatic proposals have been advanced to end an imagined debacle in Iraq. One strategic genius suggested that we need to allow the Iraqis to defeat us so they can take pride in themselves again. Other voices have called for an immediate withdrawal of American troops, despite the awful consequences such cowardice would bring.

Um. I don't read that much punditry in general, but Peters seems to be much into the ever popular straw man mode here, painting with a blithely broad without a glimmer of attribution. I don't even know if he's talking left or right here, there has, as you know, been some skepticism expressed on the right lately. If you dig polemics, Peters seems a good source, but I don't know what the point is otherwise.
