what about defense and the film industry? I thought Socal is highly diversified and full of all kinds of industries. We are much more of a one industry town up here- sortof a boom town kindof climate.

SF goes through this about every 100 years too. SF booms and then falls back. That will probably happen again, SF reminds me a little of Savannah GA, a place that peaked as a center of industry once and later became a tourist town. In the 70s and 80s there were few jobs in SF other than tourism (low paying service jobs, for the most part).
