Help for Sly...

"Even though I'm a tranquil guy now at this stage of my life, I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious of traitors."

George H.W. Bush, at the dedication of the George Bush Center for Intelligence.

I am trying to understand this complaint but have some difficulty with the problem statement.

The problem statement seems to allege that someone leaked sensitive intelligence information that exposed an operative. The operative was not as a result put in danger but it nullified her effectiveness as an intel person. It did not, as I understand it, compromise the operation of intelligence.

OK, we don't want want intel officers outted, if we can help it. However, the nature of intelligence as I get it involves a lot of we'll give you this info if you'll give us that. So, I would imagine lots of intel people work them selves out of a job as information is gathered and they get fingered as the gatherer. I would be shocked if any one told me they went into it because they value the job security offered by the profession. Oh well.

But here's the thing about the complaint, I don't get. The complainers want the CIA/Bush Administration to start blabbing about all the details of who is/was doing what... huh... I thought they were concerned about one unknown leak who let information out. If the allegation even has merit, I would hope it would be handled internally and that no further security breach would occur. ... far from demanding a public report about who does what when where and how.
