He tried to open up drilling in Alaska but got shot down by the same people now screaming about high prices! Prices will drop with more supply on the way. You can also blame the EPA requirements for 100 different formulations of gasoline to reduce pollution. When demand shifts, instant problems for those formulations and much higher prices. Bush would love to scrap these requirements but nobody will let him.

Bush should put it all on the line to bring down gas prices. He and Cheney ran in 2000 declaring that their experience and contacts in the oil biz gave them special powers to keep prices low. They lied and they failed. But it's not too late to start working for the people instead of against the people. There are many ways for a president to bring down oil prices if he makes it a priority. Bush has done none of them.
