That quote came right after the Maytag layoff announcement in that article. Sure, Maytag is worried about Iraq. Give me a break! Other than oil related companies, what company would be influenced in their hiring by the war on Iraq?

If Maytag can't make money in today's hot new housing market, they are indeed in deep trouble.

this is so common -- every time they announce all the job "creation" every month some corporation lets go 10-20% of their workforce. It strains credulity -- I think the government must buy spoos and all the hedgies know it and jump with them, too -- who is a big enough doofus to actually believe these numbers?? Name a big corporation going on a hiring binge.
