>> Tenet leaves CIA's Reputation in Tatters

Anyone with as much access to information as Tenet, would have to be astoundingly stupid to believe that wmd stockpiles existed, and that they could not be found by inspections.

Especially since Tenet was asked in a Senate hearing about the 400 leads that the CIA gave to the inspectors. He replied that each and every one of them was searched. And that each and every one of them turned out to be false. The person who asked him was Senator Carl Levin of Michigan. That reply was the basis for Sen Levin to vote against the war resolution, along with 18 other Senators.

I don't know how in a country of 300 million, the government couldn't find one non-idiot for the top CIA job. But obviously it happened.

Of course the other explanation is that he is just a yes man who likes to please his boss. And the boss (Cheney) wanted a slam dunk, not an honest answer.

I personally believe that what Tenet meant by "slam dunk' is not that big stock piles would be found. But that traces, discarded dumps, etc... could be found that would look credible enough if they were exaggerated a little.

Anyone think Tenet was "an empty suit peddling false information in support of a war that has so far proved to be a lost cause"...??

He seems to be a good-natured fellow without any trace of competence at his job. No wonder he got along so well with Bush!

Well, don't forget who gave Tenet his job: Bill Clinton. Bush should have had better judgment than to keep him in the first place.

I am not too sure about Ritter, though. He might have been a Marine, but he's got some explaining to do himself.

Anyone think Tenet was "an empty suit peddling false information in support of a war that has so far proved to be a lost cause"...??
