Boy Nadine......first of all I don't claim to be an authority on the Arab/Israeli conflict, unlike yourself who regularly touts your superior knowledge on the subject.

One thing I do have more knowledge on than you however is growing up and living in a country where oppression of an indigenous people by a foreign occupying force was a fact of life (sound familiar?!?!?). You can sit behind a computer for 10 lives over and read as much about it as anyone else but you know what????? you have no idea what it feels like until you've lived it! I'm not trying to be condescending here Nadine, that's just the way it is.

The emails that Rachel Corrie wrote struck a cord with me because I can so readily identify with what she was experiencing. Thank goodness what I saw wasn't quite as bad but once you've been there you know.

<<And no, I have not spent time in the West Bank or Gaza. Have you?>>

Thank you for your answer to my question.....it was as I expected and no, I have not been there either. My younger brother made very good friends with a Jewish girl from Haifa and a Palestinian guy from Gaza when he was at Oxford University. They were all there on scholarships....he visited with both of them at their homes in the summer of 2000.....right before the current intifada. I saw the photos (from both Gaza and Haifa) that my brother took and I listened to his experiences....suffice to say that he didn't come away with particularly warm feelings for the IDF or what he witnessed of Israeli policy in the occupied territories. I won't bore you with the details as you wouldn't believe them anyway.

I recommend that you visit some day, I know I will to see for myself. I've got a pretty good idea what it will be like.

MON.

<<then you believe the Israelis just got up in the morning and decided to conquer "historical Palestine". >> I agree, that is certainly not true about MOST Israelis, who have no such intentions or desires. But you can't deny the existence of the (hopefully still small) Eretz Israel crowd, who know well how to stir the political pot in Israel. They DO have such intentions, and say it in public speeches.
