Brian-- Thanks for keeping this an extremely well-informed thread. When I look at the other threads of stocks of companies that are even bigger than AMAT, they seem dead to me. The success of this thread is due to your keeping it at a high standard, and therefore encouraging others to add valuable points of view.

RE: "...saying what you have..."

Brian,

I suggest that you and other participants and readers of this thread start listening to NVLS conference calls. I have been listening to a number of calls for some years now, both semi and equip, and I think NVLS CEO Hill is the most reliable voice for the semi-equip industry. NVLS has been very successful and they pride themselves on being an innovative technology company. Hill comes across as brutally honest with no attempt to candy coat and he has caused NVLS stock losses after many conference calls. He is close to many major semi manufacturers and he tries to characterize what he sees happening and what kind of feedback he is getting from top semi management. I use the comments I hear on AMAT, ASML, KLAC, LRCX, and semi calls to test the model that I derive from the NVLS call.

I truly believe that the CEOs of the quality companies I follow are far more knowledgeable than the analysts and market researchers. They are limited to a 3 month forecast because they have real responsibility, while analysts can say pretty much anything with impunity. Fortunately, over time, and we have had and will have time, a coherent picture can be derived from CEO comments.
