honestly -- isn't this what you expect from Bush? His own personality must in some way match his own paranoid policies, right??

I have no problem with someone being deeply religious -- and that person having a chance to hold high office -- but to me, as a Christian, that doesn't mean I applaud anyone who can quote some scripture and holds the office of President ...

I really think Bush thinks he has divine guidance in his adoption of the neo-con philosophy -- almost akin to the old testament directives to take Canaan. At this point I don't think any nation, Israel or the US or any other, can claim such a divine directive for war -- that was different. I think truly great statesmen are hesitant to use force -- they use it as a last resort -- but then use it forcefully with very limited well-thought out objectives.

Bush was decidedly for attacking Iraq well before 9/11 -- though there is no clear connection -- let some of the people come here and post their drivel. I actually listen to some of this right wing stuff for my own "edification" -- to see what they are saying. From the start there was a policy in the Bush admin looking for a justification for what they already wanted to do -- I find that to be scary.

It isn't scary to me because Bush claims to be a Chrisian -- there are lots of folks who have legitimate faith that I disagree with -- bad policy isn't any the worse because it is something offered by a believer or unbeliever, except perhaps to the extent that there is a flimsy invocation of "in God's name" that leads to discredit of faith in general -- but I am speaking in regards to the geo-political fallout.

What bothers me is the large number of peoples that seem to have turned off their ability to think rationally and largely given Bush a blank check -- whether that is because he is a Christian -- a Republican -- someone who cuts taxes -- someone who denies certain economic realities -- or someone who is friendly to cause X -- it doesn't matter to me -- what matters is a large number of people are asleep to the fact that his policies can by no means achieve the objectives they claim because they are
1) not based in geo-political or even economic reality and 2) supported by false claims -- e.g. he is more than willing to tell what he thinks is a "virtuous lie" to achieve his objectives -- Blair falls into this category, too. Heck, he told his people that Sadam was capable of launching an attack on the UK within 30 minutes. WMD -- joke -- look at this guy in Pakistan who sold the bomb to everyone and then he said, "I'm sorry." But Pakistan is our friend because we needed them to go into Afghanistan.

All the BS about comparisons to WW2 are just that -- visions of grandeur -- Europe is laughing at us. I bet even some of those in Spain and Italy who supported us have to bite their tongues when they hear this baloney.

Oh well ...
