If your uncles served in WWII you should respect combat veterans even if they are in a different political party. During D-Day and in the jungles of Nam nobody cared about political parties.

You don't have to worship Kerry's heroism, just have some common sense respect. The rightwing has gone way too far in its outrageous slander against McCain, Cleland and now Kerry. It has to end.

I really enjoyed reading that. My grandfather and his much younger brother served in WWII. My grandfather was a Capt. in the HQ of XX Corps (formerly IV Armored Corps) and General Patton was the Army Commander. I'm lucky to have inherited a lot of WWII souveniers when he retired along with my numerous cousins.

His younger brother, just 27 years old was an Anti Tank Platoon commander at Anzio. His job on 4 Mar 44 was to ensure that German Panther and Tiger tanks failed to cross a bridge near Ponte Rotto, Italy just SW of Cisterna. He was near a group of houses when an artillery barage came in at 9:35pm. He was struck in the back by a small shell fragment from a 88 flak gun. This artillery was followed up by a kompanie sized assault of panzer grenadiers from the 9th Panzer Grenadier Regiment of the 26th Panzer Division. He told his platoon to displace while he personally covered their retreat with the 37mm At gun and he died minutes later next to the anti-tank gun position.
