To: Neeka who wrote (2994 ) 6/7/2004 12:41:31 AM From: Sully- Respond to of 35834 I respect that M. You are the better person for it. And the following rant is about why I have a different approach. No more, no less. I believe in turning the other cheek, but God only gave us two of them. Below is a link to a picture of a Nazi preparing to shoot an innocent civilian at a mass grave. Something about seeing that picture has always stuck with me. Apparently that picture did the same for others as I had no problems finding a copy on Google. That poor fellow probably never had a chance. However, ever since I saw that photo, I have always felt that as a society, to silently witness wrongdoing has real consequences. I'd rather stand up & do what I can to expose it & accept the jeers & sneers of others, than keep quiet & give my silent approval. (And no I'm not comparing folks on these threads to Nazi's - the picture simply was an epiphany of sorts that helped mold my vaule system that I apply to my whole life.) I'll freely admit that folks who have a penchant to disrespect their fellow man or a lack of personal ethics will draw my ire as time & events unfold. And the more it happens, the more I'll take issue with it. When you have threads that are specific about personal attacks & some folks act like the rules are for others, but not themselves, it riles me up. Some of those folks resort to ad hominem, baseless personal attacks at an individual &/or select groups. Those who also talk down to others with ideological, rather than reality based POV's make it hard for me to ignore the whole package. I figure if you can dish it out, I can shovel some of it up & stick it in your face for a good look at it. That's right! It ain't pretty, so why should THEY be dishing it out? It does amuse me that some folks only take issue with those who expose the inappropriate behavior, but never the perpetrator. Besides, I've seen how this behavior has ruined so many threads on SI. It made the Yahoo threads a complete cesspool. That crap adds nothing to the discussion. It usually takes the focus away from the issues & onto the personal crap. To me that's no different than how the left wants the WOT fought. They hold the US up to absolute perfection but even that isn't enough. They also conjure up all manner of perceived wrongs that have no basis in reality & use that to assail our government & country. They also justify, makes excuses for, diminish &/or ignore the actions of terrorists & rogue leaders. What do you think the end result will be if they get their way? In either case, I have little respect for those types of people. As far as I'm concerned, doing nothing about either type of inappropriate behavior only encourages more of it. FWFW, with kholt, I've tried it both ways (ignoring it & confronting it). When it is ignored, as time passes, she gets bolder with the condescending talk, her sweeping baseless attacks (true believers, audacious/hypocritical media bashers, etc.) & her mendacious personal attacks. When she is confronted, she denies it, but she also tends to back off a little.whateveristrue.com
