Hi J, I am definitely not being pessimistic. I am making my peace with the marauders, and hedging my bet with gold. I am an optimist, because I think the deluge is survivable.

"The internet ... can lead to profound pessimism." Also to profound and mistaken optimism. You can avoid these by constantly asking "where is the proof? What is the evidence?"
My pessimism is based on what I see is the sad fact that much of the American public can be fooled all of the time.
Technology may be popular; the scientific method isn't, alas.

My ancestors come from Birmingham UK. Like they made everything from hat pins to battle ships. Even my in-laws made ships in Scotland.

Now we have Jay advising us all how bad things are -g-
