Craig, There was some excitement, all pretty much undesired, but it was mostly boring. Other than invading Czechoslovakia, and I was goofing off over there at the time, the Russkies didn't do much while I was in. We were supposed to give early word of any invasion, but I think Reuters beat us to the punch. <G> We did barely make it back across the border before it was closed. Lucky we were in Pilsen and not in Prague and they hadn't mined the farmers' fields yet.

The scariest time was when I was on a snooping airplane that flew at about 12 miles per hour. Our job was to cruise along the East German and Czech borders to see how long it took Warsaw Pact planes to scramble and record and interpret the chatter. It was ok until we got a pilot who thought he was top gun and kept "slipping" over the border. He was a first Looey and I was a Sgt., but we had a heated discussion after one of those flights and it got me busted down to PFC for insubordination. But it also got me off the suicide goony bird. <G>

But it was most beer fests and women who didn't shave their legs or under their arms and dates on Saturday night because that was the only day they took a bath. Tough duty. <G>
