Reagan's signature act as(the compassionate conservative) governor of CA was to close the state mental hospitals. Hmmmm. More votes for Republicans?

Far from functioning as loyal Reaganites, the Neocons, in their characteristically factional and manipulative fashion, constantly criticized Reagan in terms that would normally be reserved for one's bitter enemies.

I just caught a brief interview on CNBC with
Nicholas Brady .. Reagan's Secretary of the Treasury ..
where he recounted his first official meeting in the
Oval office ..

Reagan was telling the story of an
exceedingly obese individual who was so large that he
was bedridden .. couldn't get out of bed without assistance
and was so large that he was literally trapped in his room ..
he couldn't fit thru the doorway .. this individual
would typically consume 5 chickens, quarts of milk, dozens
of eggs etc in a single meal ..

Reagan's question ??

So who's feeding him ??

Brady realized Reagan was making
an analogy to the size of the Federal government ..

Dramatically cutting tax rates was his way of limiting
the 'food supply' to the 'fat man' of government ..
I don't blame him for the fact that Congress .. both
democrats and republicans .. couldn't find a way to
limit spending to what was coming in ..
