Yet we've grown up as a nation in the 35-40 years hence. I'm not certain that the Tiger tales are entirely true, for truth usually lies somewhere between here and there. But let's assume that they are, just to save that debate. We don't operate that way now &#151 the wholesale killing of everything that moves in Tiger-like fashion, scope and scale.

And with hindsight on our side, with VN to do all over again in present day, we wouldn't approach it that way. May not even approach it at all. Have you any actions you took at age 20 that, at present age, make you shudder? The "If I knew then, what I know now..." Osama has yet to mature past that point. The symmetry and matching appear only when the timeline is discounted. Are we perfect yet? No. Are we better than we were? Yes. Is there still room for growth? Probably.
