In 1968 I had a nixon dartboard on the back of the door to my apartment. I also referred to Reagan as Raygun. He and Goldwater were a bit mad back then. Too far ahead of the people. When Reagan became California Governor he realized that and became far less the ideologue and far more affable. And then in 1980, he saved the country from a wave of defeatism

Mike you lost me with that post.
In all of 1968 LBJ was President. In March 68 he announced he was not running for Pres again. I remember the speech because I knew I was going back, and I did later that year. Nixon did not become Pres until 69.

I saw LBJ in person in late 67 at Ft Benning, and he gave a magnificent speech about winning. Then with TET 68 in February, the going got tough and LBJ announced a month later in March 68 he would not run for reelection> LBJ quit when the going got tough and I got a new attitude about Democrats.

In 1968, Reagan was already the new governor of California. I had never heard of him...much less his ray gun (But I would have liked to have it.). I do remember he gave a famous speech about Goldwater but cannot recall when that was.
