Clancy is a pretty good author and I generally enjoy his books. But having some knowledge myself of what he writes about, he is no military expert. He is very xenophobic and this comes through especially in books like The Bear and The Dragon. He has very little grasp of the realities of International Relations. Clancy has top-top research connections in the Pentagon and gets all the cutting edge info. He probably pays for it which makes him very popular Are you saying Clancy pays government employees (who likely hold security clearances) for research? I'd have to believe that woud be a serious problem, both for Clancy and for the persons giving him information. Get real. He's a writer. He does good, in-depth research. That doesn't make him an expert on military issues.
