"How is that "positive" at all? The writer just seethes with anger." Criticizing the harm something or someone has done is not synonymous with anger. Not that anything is wrong with anger. It is the appropriate response to injustice and suffering. Great people like Robert Ingersoll devoted their lives to the betterment of humanity, the struggle against injustice, and the war against ignorance which lies at the root of so much suffering and misery. I would question the integrity and the heart of anyone who cannot keep a constant pilot light of anger lit perpetually against the great enemies of ignorance and superstition which enslave so many lives. "This is a judgmental, fire and brimstone sermon. He is not very different than the ones he attacks." No, no, no, no! There are no threats! He was pointing out that supporting the "morality" of the bible is wicked or harmful. Nothing to do with preaching fire and brimstone and eternal torture from a loving God! :-) "Here we go again, same old stuff. "I am so important that everything in the universe must be spelled out to my exact expectations to stroke my ego ...."" A bit skittish, aren't you. That is not what he said. He said: "To prove that a book is inspired you must prove the existence of God." He did not say you had to prove anything in order to BELIEVE in anything. Christ, daytrader76...people believe in fairies and demons and flat earth! Read what you are responding to before you go tearing away your tether and prancing after the wind. "It has been my experience that rich people are more screwed up and unhappy than anybody." I don't know how your experience of rich people argues against what Ingersoll said and you quoted: "This book taught man to despise the joys of this life, that he might be happy in another -- to waste this world for the sake of the next" "They are certainly happier than all these angry atheists." That is not arguing. It is just being ridiculous. If you want to argue that believers are happier than atheists, we could start a new topic or thread. I know they far outnumber atheists behind prison walls--but perhaps they are happy there? I don't know. "What irony it is that the angry lawyer atheist attacks the happy believers. "Stop being happy! Just stop! You should be angry like me!"" Don't be childish. He did no such thing. He devoted his life to the service of humanity--to helping people escape ignorance and self-imposed drudgery and slavery to the carrot and stick religious power brokers. Of course, you probably would have no understanding of how people were subjugated for centuries by the church and how they were sucked dry of blood, sweat, and tears with the empty promise of a stupidity feast after they could no longer follow the plow or wield the sword. I really had hoped you would leave well enough alone. I hate to interfere with the "happiness" of the truly gullible and susceptible. I truly do. I always allow a waiting period. But if you are a big enough boy to take up my time with vacuous statements, then you are a big enough boy to eat dung from your "good book". Now don't get angry. Orders are orders...
