Who says I'm afraid of Reagan's death? If you notice, Kerry is being more Reaganesque than Bush these days, and had the class to suspend his campaign during the national mourning.

However, this will give conservatives in general a temporary nostalgic lift. If it happened right before the election it would be bad for Kerry but it happened way too early to make a difference.

Bush will have to keep running on his own record, which is pretty dismal. And also remember, Reagan never got up in front of the American people and told them lies. He did some naughty things, but he took responsibility and was pretty much of a straight-shooter, at least from his own point of view. Bush however has deliberately deceived us and has been AWOL on some pretty important issues. He is also the great divider not the great communicator or uniter. Kerry will be much more of a uniter.

I don't think Reagan's death will help Bush at all. Just the opposite. Remembering Reagan makes Bush look even smaller and more incompetent. And I wasn't a Reagan fan.
I'm sure Bush hopes what you say is true, and will make RR's death last as long as possible - it keeps his loser administration off the front page.
