You're right, Mike. If you wish to talk about Reagan's legacy this week or bash whatever, it's not my call.

I only meant, and should have made this as clear as possible, that I would like for you to not invoke my name in those Reagan discussions, attributing views to me. And I ask that, at least for those of us who do not plan to get engaged in "greatest presidents" debates this week, those debates be postponed until next week.

I, quite obviously, am in no position to do more than make a request. I thought that was obvious.

As for the cheap shot comment, I gather the grinnie was left off.

Michael: so sorry that my words appear to be orders. I did not nor do not intend for them to be. I don't take orders well myself and learned a long time ago that effective teaching is a good exchange of ideas. The closer one's ideas to his convictions the better unless he is just practicing the Socratic method.

But at times, strong opinion and a forthright expression of those opinions is interpreted as an attack, or as one seeking to order others around.

Not so. And If so, then I apologize.

The truth of the matter is that I enjoy intellectual exchange. And I enjoy it even more with those with whom I vigorously disagree.

But I try to remember to use sarcasm and other techniques as techniques and not weapons. I do not attack. I merely express. I let the thought expressed carry the attack for it is the thought that must be defended or defended against as the case may be.

So keep on kicking, Michael. That is what I encourage. But don't get offended when somebody kicks back.

<< But truth be told, Reagan has been dead for some time.>>

I find it somewhat interesting about humans and hope. An old guy is 98, half his heart and 80% of his lungs gone and the rest of his body full of cancer. But as long as the machine goes blip blip blip, the family has hope the guy will be carving the turkey next Thanksgiving. Death ends that hope.

That being said, my father had a split in his aorta when he was 76 in September '83. Flew him to Peoria. The big deal heart surgeon said put him in an ambulance and send him back to Bloomington, wouldn't even admit him to the hospital. It would have screwed up his win loss record. Local MD called over and had him admitted, ordered medication to lower his blood pressure. My dad not only carved the turkey but he had taken a 5 mile walk.
