Yeah...they were two separate issues...the question for the boot screen was where to find the properties (not for desktop...for boot & shutdown). And as it turns out, you can do that from any screen with a picture on it by right clicking on the picture & selecting 'set as backround'. That jsiinc link I got to from the google suggestion this a.m...the only thing left to try is re-installing IE6 which I'll do this evening.
