Actually, they haven't "demonetized" gold, which they could have if they wanted to play hard-ball. They have simply allowed it to "float" against the USD, as if it was another currency, which, as I see it, is not a bad compromise. People can still "play" gold if they want to. They can still believe in its "safe haven" status or whatever. Ladies can still have rings and bracelets etc made out of it as symbols of love. People can still have all of that but what they can't have is to put the USD out of business or close the money-printing machine. And that's what the goldbugs want.
