Z,
reSteve, there are a couple of MAJOR differences between the Soviets and what we should be doing -- first off, the Soviet Union was a corrupt dictatorship (no comments from the peanut gallery about the Bush administration!). Second, the Soviet Union did not provide a means for those who worked harder to do better than those who did not, and that's key.

I don't mind the rich being very rich, I just don't like to see anyone poor.

You see corruption today in the welfare programs we already have. Do you think this corruption will disappear on a wider scale?

Second, our tax system already punishes those that work harder to do better than those who do not. Starting with this failed tax system would be the key.

If you want to help the lazy, give them an incentive to be a productive member of society. Giving them more money is not the answer. You may feel better about it, but rewarding the lazy in this country is a failed policy.
