Isn't that just when homlessness became the pc term? They used to be hobos and bums.


No, those are the ones that live down by the railroad tracks. Third Eye is talking about the ones forced out of the hospitals and institutions by Reagan's spending cuts in favor of defense.

I can't remember if that was before or after the Beirut and Contra Costa debacles.

They were still hobos and bums(whatever that is), but they were joined by drug addicts, the deranged and people who started falling through the cracks left by terminated social programs-what we now call the homeless working poor. We could no doubt argue at length about whether Reagan's actions were too fast, too much, not enough, heartless or whatever without coming to any agreement. But the fact is the sheer numbers started rising during his watch.
