UNITED NATIONS - The United States called for a vote on a U.N. resolution endorsing the restoration of Iraq 's sovereignty after striking a last-minute compromise. Germany will vote for the new U.N. resolution endorsing the restoration of Iraq's sovereignty, Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said Tuesday. France had said earlier in the day that it, too, would back the measure in the Security Council. U.S. Ambassador John Negroponte said he was "very optimistic" about the outcome of the vote scheduled for late Tuesday afternoon. But Chile and other Security Council members were still hoping for more changes in the resolution. And China, while it welcomed the compromise as an improvement, refrained from saying Tuesday how it would vote.

Idea Of The Day- Why Afghanistan and Iraq are becoming nations where sports is flourishing, why the global media is bent to emanate only negatives why can't they concentrate on positives? You really are a clown! Amidst all of the problems that these two nations are facing you feel that the media should emphasize the resurgence of sports as an illustration of the progress that is being made? There is tangible progress being made in other facets of life which are of far more significance than sports flourishing.
