I wonder how Discover could pay a 10% rebate on groceries. Someone who had worked for the credit card operations of Bank One / First USA said that the interchange fee charged to some merchants was as high as 10% but the interchange rate charged to grocery stores was only 2%.

I can't imagine a card company taking an 8% loss on grocery charges as a promotion.

My Bank One Visa pays a flat 1% rebate on all charges up to $65,000 per year.

I will not use Discover because of a concept called 2 cycle billing. I think it should be illegal. People using discover and not paying off every month every time are getting rolyally screwed. Far worse than the interest rates being "promoted". It leaves a bad tase in my mouth to have anything to do with them although I suppose that would be one way to get back. Have everyone start getting cash back and paying bills in full.

>>Discover is paying 10% cash back on groceries.<<

but can't use that at WMT -- I am going to experiment and see if I can really save enough to make that wortwhile --

I don't think the grocery is near 10% higher than WMT, but WMT has been cheap enough that we tend to shop there for most foodstuffs -- and heck, the supercenter is convenient -- since you can get more than groceries.

how does it work -- I just requested info on it with some new cards
