It is my professional obligation to correct people's grammar, especially that of my graduate students who appear to have an overweening view of their own superiority both as thinkers and writers.

And since language and its use is my professional concentration, I tend to let my habits in the classroom and with student writing leak over into my other relationships.

And I didn't have to "go over" your post. The disagreement between subject and verb jumped out at me on first reading. I've had lots of training and experience when it comes to scholarly editing.
