I had lunch with a guy who was an information officer when Hiroshima was bombed. After a bombing run several planes would fly over and each had a target to identify the damage. Ie. the grocery store was missed, the rifle factory is half gone ... many reports on several buildings.

After the BOMB the reports started filtering in. This factory is gone, that factory is gone ... and these guys were thinking 100% of the targets were hit. Then a guy radioed back not to send any more planes, nothing was left.
