I will second that. Hunt for Red October was very accurate. Of course it didn't disclose anything that couldn't have been found in Janes, but it was very accurate. There were many little things about sub hunting that he wasn't so accurate about, but even as a bubblehead I found it an enjoyable read.

But as far as him being on the forefront and a great military mind and privy to all? Give me a break.

Why not? The Chinese do, or at least did, during Clinton's administration. It only seems fitting that Clancy should have equal access, too.
