When I was in ROTC during the 60s we were informed that Viet Nam was in a strategic location between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. From this, I surmised that access to this strategic location was vital to US interests, and THAT was the true reason for our interest in Viet Nam. All the stuff about liberating the South from Ho Chi Min was just fluff for people who don't do their own thinking, as is the WMD excuse in Iraq Hint: Do your own thinking. Look out for number one, then look out for the other guys. If you aren't number one you CAN'T look out for the other guys.
