Tactics and strategy are everything. I just watched Detroit lose a game they should have won.

They could have fouled Kobe with 3 or 4 seconds left, when they still had a three point lead and won the game. Kobe should never have had the opportunity to shoot that 3 point shot. In my judgement, tonight, Detroit suffered from weak and indecisive leadership that lost track of the goal in the final moments of the game..

War is much the same. A combat leader must know when to yield a bit to win a far bigger prize.

Our agencies like the CIA must learn this lesson. War is not about being right or wrong everytime. It is about being right and winning when the game is on the line.

That takes much leadership skill. Some won't know they can win. Some won't realize the game is on the line. Some will think the game is lost. Some will be frozen in the fear that they are about to lose.

Winners rise above all that bullshit. They know they can win and recogize every opportunity to win. They accept the challenge and the possibility of defeat. But they never accept defeat itself.

Our Armed Forces are strong. Our agencies need some hardening.
