They could have fouled Kobe with 3 or 4 seconds left

I'm watching the post-game interviews. They're questioning everyone about that non-foul.

That was quite a game.

They should have deliberately fouled Kobe in order to win?

Maybe in some spheres, while on others, deliberately breaking the rules is a sign of sharp elbows, and sharp practices, which are not Good Things.

Thanks for the ongoing insights into breaking the rules in order to win.

I trust that in future you won't gripe about the other side breaking the rules in order to win . . . .

Hopefully, when all is said and done with the CIA and the FBI, we will take a good look at the "middle tier of career civil servants"....Like any private corporation, some employees are excellent, some are performing in an average manner, and some don't know they are even in the game, so to speak. Hopefully, Congress will investigate the Unions as well...Americans really need to know who is making what decisions, and why.

"It's being done entirely by career civil servants whose job it is to determine what remains classified and what can be declassified," the official said. The official said that neither George J. Tenet, the departing director of central intelligence, or any other top C.I.A. official, had yet been involved in the decisions about declassification and release of the document.

Fire General Larry Brown. (g)

LB is one of the best coaches in the game. Was there a reason for the lack of the foul or was it just missed communications? Game was on too late for me to watch. Unlike you, i still have to work. (g).
By the way, what CB confused was the delibrate strategic foul which was warranted with the overly hard violent one to prevent a sure basket. If you apply her post to the latter situation, it makes more sense. What do girls know about basketball anyway? Just kidding CB. Just kidding KHolt. Mike

<<< Winners rise above all that bullshit. They know they can win and recogize every opportunity to win. They accept the challenge and the possibility of defeat. But they never accept defeat itself.

Our Armed Forces are strong. Our agencies need some hardening.>>>

I agree with you about our Armed Forces. I think they are winners like UCLA under Coach Wooden or Duke University basketball under Coach K. (Incidentally Coach K came out of West Point- I think).

But I think its more than about winning. I think it is important to win with elan - with class. Winning on a disputed call or winning by getting away with cheating - takes away from winning.

A ball game (or sports) is relatively simple. Everything is executed between the lines. The rules are relatively simple. In life however thing are far more complex.

But I think for us (Western Civilization) sports is very important. Sports may not build character, but it certainly reveals character. It is not a stretch for the English to say that many of their combat victories originated from the sports activities at Eaton or some of the other english schools and play grounds.

This is our tradition. You know, like John Wayne or some other Western hero, who will not draw their weapon until the other guy goes first. Or, when in a dual to the end, the villain drops the sword, the hero will pick it up and give the villain another chance. But, when the hero drops his sword, the villian will try to take advantage - but some how we always win.

But, this may sound silly, but this is our tradition - our culture. We win because we are better prepared. We win because, we do all the right things.

But to win, by torturing people and killing innocent people - is not really a terrific way to win.

I guess, in a round about way, that is what CB is saying.

Let's win by being better prepared - by practising our skills - by playing like a team - by sacraficing ourselves and play the role that is best for our team. It is far better to win by playing the game, rather than finding loopholes in the rule books.

It has a lot to do with how you view life.

Yes, our Armed Forces are strong, but I also think our Agencies are strong (CIA, FBI, etc)>. What's weak are our politicians.

You have to go through a lot of training and get a lot of education to join our armed forces, and the Federal Agencies, but there are no requirements to become a politician. All you need is a mouth.
