Hawk, there have been NZ soldiers in Iraq for some time. But the current intention is for them to withdraw in September. cnsnews.com In my opinion, NZ should put the hordes of beneficiaries into the military and they could be sent to Iraq. They should be given the choice of getting a job or being in the NUN army. That would have two desirable effects. Most of them would very quickly get a job. Some of them might choose instead to go into the army and get some value and sense of purpose in their lives. We have got an absurdly bloated welfare system. We might now have the world's highest proportion of the tax-paid to tax-payers since the Soviet Union died. rodneyhide.com I'd also like to see NZ organize a NUN conference, since it doesn't seem likely to happen in Iraq [and anyway, the security situation isn't good in Iraq]. NZ is nice and neutral, like Reykjavik [where Gorby and Raygun met]. If the conference is held in early March, the climate will be nice and accommodation available and touring enjoyable. Sailing on the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf, golf galore, get away from the northern winter for a couple of weeks. Do something useful. Mqurice
