"This whole Israeli drama about the so-called Gaza withdrawal is a sham, a performance choreographed to fool the ignorant ..."

"The compromise endorsed by the ministers allows Israel to prepare logistically for the removal of settlements but does not commit Israel to evacuating any of them."

Sharon's intent was to give up Gaza and then try to keep as much of the WB and its water as possible for Israel. The settlers have messed that up for him and to get his cabinet to approve it he had to fire two cabinet members and agree to a plan where there are 4 separate withdrawals from Gaza; each one having to get a new vote of approval each time prior to the withdrawal. Even with that, the settlers are unhappy and trying to force new elections.

Bottom line: not only is the whole thing a sham to make it look like the Israelis are working towards peace but it shows very clearly the lack of Israeli commitment to an independent state for the Palestinians........at least by some.

But watch........two years from now, with a new infitada starting up, the Israelis will come back and say see.........we tried so hard, and then throw up their arms, reload their ak-47s and go out hunting Palestinians! And whomever is president at the time will click his tongue and tell the American public how hard the Israelis work for peace and how ungrateful the Palestinians are.........and then Congress will approve another $4.2 billion in Israelis subsidies.

Its gone on for decades.......why fix what ain't broke.
