Bear my dad was born in Columbus, went to OSU, and his dad was Chief Deputy Sheriff for Columbus. I've been a Buckeye since I could watch a game. Obviously I therefore hate Michigan. :•)
I hope we win Ohio, as we need it dearly.
Spirit does not speak for me, but Spirit does post some truths, and some exaggerations. Guess I may also.
I want Spirit to not respond in kind to the Ann's of the world, but that is easy to advise and hard to adhere to when folks are calling you everything but a good person.
What do you think?

Dr. Bob: "Our patient is getting better."

Dr. CR: "I agree, but I don't think we can take him off life support. And we aren't addressing the cancer yet either."

Right now, the economy is on life support (1% Fed Funds rate for almost a year). At the stated CPI (2.5% over the last 12 months), this is a negative 1.5% real rate. Of course, the Fed has acknowledged that CPI understates inflation in the following article (but we can ignore that for now):

Until we can get the patient off life support (1.5%+ real rates), the patient is in danger of collapsing from other unexpected ailments. But right now I am mostly concerned about the cancer (aka 'The balance sheets'). The twin deficits, corporation debt (especially junk) and consumer debt are all problematical. This debt explosion is the cancer that we are not addressing.

Example: CCC Sickness

'The financing of today will be the bankruptcies of tomorrow," Carl Icahn warned debt investors at a recent Bear Stearns conference.'

So Dr. Bob, it’s great that the patient is looking a little better, but he is still very sick. And it is just June. Be careful running on May numbers in the Fall. This is especially true when we are not addressing the patients other problems (just ignoring them for now).

I am glad things are looking a little better. But I was never concerned about the short term implications of the current poor fiscal policies.

Maytag just laid off 1100 workers at its plant in Ohio.
Things are rapidly improving? Well if so where was Bush for the first three years when Ohio was losing 650,000 jobs, most of which won't come back?

Ohio will be very close. Kerry has the luxury of choosing a VP who can help him grab Ohio and PA, one who can get him Arizona, NM, Nevada and Florida or one who can help in Florida and the south. If he picked Evan Bayh for instance, Ohio would probably be in the bag. But my guess is that he'll go with Bill Richardson and nail down the fast-growing Hispanic vote, which also includes many active military. That gives him Florida and New Mexico for sure and that's a great place to start. 1,000,000 new Hispanic voters in Floridas since 2000. Amazing huh? Arizona also has a lot.
